LEAD DESIGNER: KRISTIN HOWARD
HDG’s lead designer and owner, Kristin Howard, has designed over 1,000 professional landscape, pool, and outdoor living projects for institutional, industrial, commercial, and residential properties since opening HDG Landscape Design in 2013.
Kristin received a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Texas A&M University with a minor in Urban Planning and Horticulture, is a Texas Master Gardener, and a licensed irrigator for the state of Texas (LI0020650).
Kristin’s personal interest is in unique design challenges and horticulture. She has trained for several years to increase her knowledge in home vegetable and fruit production as well as specialty rose growing and custom hybridization.
Kristin’s home garden is located outside of Houston on 2 acres and is dubbed “The HDG Test Garden” where Kristin personally tests the plants, materials, and installation techniques she recommends to her clients. She has a dedicated YouTube channel, blog, podcast, and Instagram page to showcase what’s “growing on” in the test garden and provide new fresh ideas for fellow gardeners.
HDG Landscape Design donates training, education, designs, and consultations each year to non-profit organizations including Camp Hope Veteran Program’s outdoor living space and Memorial garden, Texas A&M University’s annual student design workshop, and marketing design and renderings to secure grants for community gardens in Texas.
HDG Landscape Design is a 4 time award winner of the Best of Houzz Customer Satisfaction award. HDG has partnered with several installation companies in the Houston area to help them win design/build project awards. Kristin was the lead designer for 2 TNLA design awards won by a Houston installation company in 2021. See the award winning project photos HERE.
Kristin Howard was selected as the first Texas designer for the DIY Network’s show Yard Crashers. Her responsibilities were strictly behind-the-scenes as the designer on the show including providing the design, marketing 3D graphics, selecting materials and creating an installation budget, working directly with the local nursery to select plants, laying out the full project on-site and directing crews, staying on schedule, and providing the show host with local horticulture knowledge for sound bites. The episode ‘Charming Southern Retreat‘ (Air Date July 28, 2014) gives a taste of just one of Kristin’s many design styles as well as her ability to create one-of-a-kind outdoor living design.
Kristin has won several first place awards growing roses and competing in the Houston Rose Society’s seasonal events.
